Unit 22: Production Roles In
Media Operation.
Media Job Roles Mindmap.
Section 1.
I will be doing
my research on Film. I will be discussing two different roles in the organization;
those roles are Film Director and Film producer and what they are capable of in
their media sector.
Section 2.
Film Director.
A Film Director
is someone who directs the script onto a set in order to be filmed. They are
responsible for how the actors portray themselves, if their acting is not up to
scratch then the director is supposed to be firm in order to push the actors to
their maximum. If there is no director
there would be no film because the actors wouldn’t know what do and it would be
very boring. The Director doesn’t use any equipment they simply just use their
great belief and positive attitude. The skills required for this role is
creativeness, You need to be creative for this job because you need the eye to
know what it will look like on the big screen.
Film Producer.
A Film Producer brings the whole thing
together and approves the whole production team. Their key responsibility is to create an environment where
the talents of the cast and crew can be up to it’s highest standards. Everyone relies on the Producers for the
overall success, they steer the film from beginning to completion and beyond.
If there was no Producers films would never be finished, they complete the
whole thing and raise the development financing and supervise the development
process. There are different types of producers; the equipment involved all
together is a camera, Lighting, sound equipment such as microphones, editing
equipment and computer. The skills required in order to be a successful
producer involves having a creative eye because of the amount of editing that
would be involved and being able to set the image in your head to figure out
where the lighting should be in order for it to look the best it can on camera.
Resources i have used are all from the internet, i used a website called mediacollege.com and turned the information into my own words.

My
suitability for the role of a Film Director:
I am good at socializing so I would
able to talk to the actors efficiently and communicate with other film roles. I
am quite creative so I would be able to use my imaginative mind to direct
people to make it look the best it could possibly be.
My
suitability for the role of a Film Producer:
I would be able to use my social skills
to communicate and know if the idea that has been given across is a good idea.
Whilst making the trailer I was the
Director.
My responsibilities was to inform actors
what to do to make it look good on camera, I controlled everything that
happened on set. My contribution was to the production was that I decided what
would be filmed on camera. I had connections with the script writer because I
had to communicate with him to understand the plot and explain to them how I
was going to make it come across, my verbal communication and creativity would
become handy with this job.
My
contribution to a production.
Role
and responsibilities- My
role is to direct the making of the trailer. My responsibilities were to make
sure everything on set was controlled so the actors would be pushed to the
maximum.
Contribution
to media product-My
contribution to the trailer was to control everything that happens on camera.
Interaction
within my team- I had to
interact with the film producer for opinions before they produce the movie, I
had to interact with the Scriptwriter in order to understand the script and
explain how it would be reenacted. I had
to use my communication with the cameraman to know which camera angles he
needed.
Development
of skills- Through out the making of the trailer my
social skills improved and I became more comfortable being able to tell people
what to do to make it look how I want it.
Areas
for further development- To
be able to find away to explain how I want my ideas to come across more
efficiently.
Contribution
to media product.
As the director I was able to positively
contribute to the completion of the product by staying motivated through out
the process and everything I was responsible for turned out well on camera.
I was able to use my creative skills and
verbal skills to work with team members and express my opinion to them in order
for them to see my view of how it should look.
Interaction within my team.
I can work with other people and don’t have
a problem with communicating with my team. I share my ideas across with all
team members and ask for input and opinions.
Each team member has it’s own main role but
everyone helps share ideas and work together. I direct what goes on so the
other roles are supposed to listen and co-operate if it involves what is
happening on set.
Each team member would gather every week to
plan and document what we were going to do next in order to keep organized, we
would discuss which role would do what and how we would reach our objectives
and co operate individually and together.
We all worked effectively as a team and
everyone took part and gave 100% effort. Everyone took their own role as well
as input into the whole trailer.
Development
of skills.
Working as the director of this trailer let
me use my creative skills, as I was capable of imagining how I wanted the
trailer to look and succeeded. I also
have good verbal communication skills, which allowed me to work with all team
members especially actors. My team
working skills developed a lot through the journey of making the trailer, we all
had our own input equally and got on well as a team. No one slacked and we all
gave our maximum effort making everyone capable of working well and
effectively. Paper work was shared out evenly between us so we would all be
working all together and trying as hard as possible.
Areas
for further development.
I think if I had to work with a larger
group of people to make a trailer I would struggle to interact with them
especially if the role was permanent and I was doing it regularly. Also I think if there was more people involved on set then I
would struggle to use my creative skills to imagine how everything could be set
out, these are the sort of things I need to improve and take on board if I want
to do this job in the future. Also I would need to be able to handle the paper
work as I would find that difficult to do on my own.
I think I would be able to develop those
skills I need if I did film in university and did a lot of studying and
practicing in order to get further.
I could get work experience at a studio to
help me acquire the skills I want as well as doing a degree in university in
order to pursue further with the career I want to achieve. I am aware at the
work needed to be put in to succeed at this job and I would be fully committed
to doing it full time. I have a passion for this sort of role in the media
sector.
Overall
suitability.
I feel like if I had more practice and
experience within the filming sector then I could take on this career and
succeed, I have the mind set for the job and am willing to try my maximum
hardest to be able to take this career on.
I have had an amazing experience taking on
the role as a director for the trailer. I enjoyed the jobs and responsibilities
I had to take on and put in maximum effort.
